WB Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme 2020 is going to be rolled out by the West Bengal government. The state govt. plans to roll out scheme to procure Kharif paddy for its public distribution. It is because the govt. seeks to maintain unhindered supply of free rice to around 10 crore people till June 2021.
WB Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme 2020
In the WB Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme 2020, the state govt. aims to enrol over 30 lakh farmers. Approx. 13 lakh of an estimated 72 lakh paddy farmers in West Bengal have registered themselves for the Karif Paddy Procurement Scheme so far. The WB state govt. is planning to reach out to as many farmers as possible.
The new WB Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme aims to procure paddy to maintain unhindered supply of rice for our public distribution system. The scheme will be rolled out soon and West Bengal govt. will start procuring paddy in the December 2020 end.
Need for Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme
There is a super harvest of paddy in this Kharif season and low demand have hit paddy prices. The prices of Paddy in this season have fallen below the government announced minimum support price (MSP). The West Bengal govt. is planning to impose a ceiling on the amount of paddy to be procured from each farmer. This will help us enrol more and more farmers under this WB Kharif Paddy Procurement Scheme 2020.

Procurement of Paddy by West Bengal Government
The state government of West Bengal is planning to procure around 45 quintals of paddy from each farmer. In the FY 2019, the maximum procurement of paddy went up to 90 quintals for every farmer at an MSP of Rs. 1,868 per quintal. The price of paddy this time, is yet to be fixed. It will be done keeping in mind the interest of the farmers.
The state also has plans to set up a special surveillance system to ensure that the enrolled farmers sell their harvest to the government and not to hoarders.
